Well it’s looking like Spring is finally here. The peacocks have their fabulous tails all ready to display; the daffodils are out, the blossom on the fruit trees, and the chickens have started laying eggs by the dozen. And that means, of course, that we are all gearing up to opening the doors of Kilmichael for the 2009 season. And despite the gloomy financial atmosphere, we can’t help feeling a bit of a spring in our step! This year Kilmichael has excelled itself in the awards stakes. First we heard from the AA that, for the twelfth year in a row, we were once again to be awarded ‘red stars’, which means that we are yet again an ‘Inspectors’ Choice’ hotel.
And to make it a hat trick we attended a glamorous ceremony at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Glasgow to receive the award for Scottish Country House Hotel of the Year. This came as a real surprise, hence the rather stunned looks on our faces in the official photographs, not because we didn’t think we deserved it, but because our small size means it is a particular honour!
So, if ever there was a particularly good year to visit Kilmichael – and every year is a good year – 2009 must be the one!

Not only that,
but The Scottish Tourist Board (or “VisitScotland”) has made
us one of the first recipients of their Gold Star Award, which means we
are one of only twenty or so hotels to receive such an award. VisitScotland
says that these awards “reflect an exceptional standard of hospitality,
service and cuisine well above expectations”.
