21 June: This is the longest day of the year, but nonetheless too short a time remains for our superlatives! The pleasures of Kilmichael House are manifold: a beautiful setting; handsome architecture; welcoming peacocks and a noble table. We enjoyed every minute in our exquisite suite, at the delectable table, and in the company of our delightful host. Staff excellent! Breakfast, drinks and dinner were luscious.

24 June: We have had a truly memorable 3 days at Kilmichael. The very high standards of the comfort, cuisine, welcoming attitude of all the staff plus the magnificent environmental setting all contributed to our happy memories. I am sure both the South African and Scottish members of our party will return.

Not surprised to see my Blue Italian Spode. My first taste of whisky just so we could use the little decanter set. All the accoutrements in the breakfast room were greatly admired! 12 July: Just for the record, everyone, I climbed Goat Fell 30 years ago (July 1981). Yesterday I stood on the summit again. Together with this wonderful, peaceful house, it’s made my holiday. Everything was superb.

4 September: Superb. Kilmichael lived up to every one of its five stars. Setting idyllic, cuisine could not be bettered (says my French fiancée); and service was excellent. Perhaps the greatest compliment is to say that we didn’t feel we were in a hotel. It felt like we were personal guests in a private house – guests of the Laird!
